Winter Evening Court Bookings, 2007-2008

The winter court booking system starts in the first week of October, and the booking form for the first week is already up on the clubhouse notice board.

For the first time, this winter we have six floodlit courts, which has greatly expanded what we can do in the evenings, including the following …

Many people are part of an “arranged four”, who make regular evening bookings, but a lot of people are not. To help these people get more winter tennis, a list of people wanting winter play will be put up on the notice board. You may add your name, phone number and an idea of what days/times you would like to play. If you see enough people wanting the same as you, you can contact them and arrange a one-off or regular game.

As well as doubles, some courts are now available for booking games of singles tennis. Which courts are bookable for singles is clearly shown on the booking form. If you enjoy playing singles, we are re-starting the singles ladder, located on the left-hand side of the entrance to the clubhouse. Just pick up a yellow card, add your name and phone number and insert at the bottom of the ladder. The ladder works by challenging anybody up to three places above you. You play best of three sets; if you win you take the opponent’s place and they move down one, if you lose then no change.

Whatever courts you are booking, you will need tokens for the meters. These cost £2.50 for 30 minutes and are available from Alan Gates, Garth Selvey, Joe Rylett, Kim Bishop, Maggie Tofani, Peter Hatch or Rod Kettle. Please purchase a stock of tokens in advance as there is no guarantee that any of these people will be available on any one evening.

To use the floodlight meters, you need access to the clubhouse. If you feel you need this, swipe cards are available at a cost of £3. Please contact Andy Gibbs (andy.gibbs@btinternet.com) regarding this.

We hope you enjoy your winter tennis.
